Type Locality and Naming
The naming section is located at Chugouyu, Lushi County, Henan, and the reference section is situated in the vicinity of Hejiagou in a small basin at Dayu. Named by Tong Yongsheng and Wang Jingwen in 1980.
Lithology and Thickness
Sequence of variegated mudstone, sandy mudstone and marlstone and interbedded sandstone and conglomerate, with lignite beds in the upper part. The thickness may reach 700 m.

Lower contact
Conformable contact with the underlying Eocene Lushi Fm.

Fossils
Archaeomeryx optatus, Eomoropus major, Breviodon sp. and Forstercooperia sp. have been found, of which the first two species are only seen in the Xar Moron-aged fauna in other areas.
